Who we are: Version 3: January 2005
BACKGROUND
Mission:
The Seattle 911 Visibility Project is a non-partisan organization
whose goal is full public disclosure of a multitude of
unanswered questions regarding the
events of 9/11. Our work is in support of current national projects
working for 9/11 visibility and
disclosure, including www.unansweredquestions.org, www.911citizenswatch.org, and the National 9-11 Visibility
Project (www.septembereleventh.org)
Why is 9/11
visibility important?
The events of 9/11 have been used as a pretext for many changes in
the way the US government functions, including increased militarism,
programmatic imperialist expansion, and the dismantling of the US Constitution.
These changes have increased the power and wealth of the governing elite at the expense of the rest of us. 911
Visibility Project believes that it is
the patriotic duty of all US citizens to work for a fair, complete, and
transparent investigation of the events of
911 to understand exactly what happened on that infamous day.
Brief
History:
The 911
Visibility Project was born as a Seattle group
in July of 2003. Activities were primarily tabling at local peace and
justice events. On October 18, 2003 Kansas City author Bill Douglas delivered a
keynote presentation on the events of 9/11 at a Seattle Thunder event, and soon after formed the National 911
Visibility Project.

Seattle
became a chapter in the national organization. In November 2003, our local
action email list serve was formed at
http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/911visibilityprojectaction.
On November 8 2003, at Seattle Central Community College, an Action
Planning Meeting and Video/Discussion drew 40 people. On November 29 2003, our local group held
its first “demonstration,” in solidarity with Kansas City, at Eastlake Center
in downtown Seattle.

In the early spring of
2004, we developed a sign and button (see images below). On Monday March 29
2004, we sponsored an appearance by Barrie Zwicker, acclaimed Canadian
journalist and media critic, who presented and discussed his video documentary
"The Great Deception" in Seattle. This event drew approximately 150
people. On September
11 2004 we presented a “Citizen's
Analysis of What Really Happened ” at Kent Regional Library, and also tabled at
Central Seattle Public Library. Both events were hosted by King County Library
System as part of the public library
“September Project.” On October 15 and 16, we sponsored
presentations in Mt Vernon, Kent, Bellevue, and Seattle by former Republican
presidential candidate (2004) John Buchanan, who ran as the
9/11 Truth Candidate. On January 15 2005,
members of our group brought Mike Ruppert, author of Crossing the
Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil,
[perhaps the most authoritative book on 9-11 to date] to Seattle. The
presentation drew an overflow crowd to the 720 seat Rotheke auditorium at Kane
Hall, UW.
Public
opinion
Because of the continued dedication of 9/11 activists throughout
the country, more and more citizens are questioning our government's account of
the events of September 11 2001. In 2002, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution
conducted a poll on the question of government complicity. 46 % of 23,000
respondents said “I think officials knew it was coming” while 2% were “not
sure. Congress should investigate”. The poll was suddenly removed from the
paper’s website. In April 2004, a CBS/New York Times poll found that 72 % of
the American public believed the Bush administration to be guilty of some degree
of cover-up. A Zogby poll addressing
beliefs regarding the attacks of 9/11 conducted in August 2004 found 56%
of New York state’s residents and 56% of New York city’s residents called for
another investigation beyond the 9/11 Commission. In Canada, 63% of respondents
agreed with the statement that
“”Individuals within the US government including the White House had prior
knowledge of the events of 9/11, and failed to …stop them” [Statistics from
David Ray Griffin’s book The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and
Distortions.] Shortly after his November 11 letter to NIST challenging the
“official” story of jet fuel as the source for the WTC collapses, Underwriters
Laboratories Director Kevin Ryan was fired.

Information
resources:
Large amounts of information, as well as disinformation on the
events of 9/11 are spread throughout the internet. A number of books, videos,
CDs, and DVDs are also available. [See our list of resources]. Our group tries
to rely as much as possible on main stream American, reputable foreign, and
multiple verifiable media sources for all of its information. As Michael Moore
put it, we are not interested in conspiracy theories, unless they happen to be
true. Education is through public presentations and tabling.
Local
research:
Although lots of information is available, 9/11 is a vast issue, and there is still urgent need for research not only to obtain and verify new information, but also to select, organize and assess the verified information already available. In fact, the more we learn, the more we find there is still more to learn. Areas include resource summaries, the Joint Intelligence Committees, the 9/11 Omission, the WTC Towers, the Pentagon, aircraft control, air defense failures and NORAD training exercises on 9/11, insider trading, whistleblowers and lawsuits, advanced warnings, precursors, etc.. A number of examples of local research are available on the internet at www.septembereleventh.org, and at our tabling events.
Funding:
Our group obtains funding for the purchase of educational materials, rental of venues and equipment, and printing of local materials, from the sales of purchased educational materials and from donations (especially from members of our own group.)
